London, 2005. Chinatown. Missing "J". A split second after I took this photo I smiled and waved at this guy... and he smiled and waved back. Right on.
Is pop culture ruining society? Is cheddar cheese better than brie? There will always be a big struggle between the middle and the fringes. My own personal opinion is that American Idol generates nothing but regurgitated pap. I mainly listen to Indie Pop Rocks these days. I have my laptop in my living room plugged into my big sound system. It plays this station a lot. (If you know me and you have Google Talk, you've probably seen this station in my status display.) It's still tasty "pop" music, but there's always an element of creativity in there. This shit needs to catch on. Elise Nordling (the person behind this station) is a wonderful "music editor." I can't even tell you how many CDs I've bought because of her. She's doing good work.
On a related note... People need to slow down and appreciate subtlety. Sometimes it's not the easy or natural thing to do, but it's much more rewarding. Nuance is the spice of life.
One last thing... We haven't officially announced this site yet, but there are already quite a few people registered for the North America Photobloggers Meetup. Kick ass. I'll see you there. Let's talk over a beer.
